Tarot Spreads Explained: One-Card, Three-Card & Celtic Cross
A "spread" is simply the pattern in which you lay out tarot cards — each position asks a different question. Here are the three most useful spreads, from simplest to deepest.
One-card draw
The fastest reading: pull a single card for a focused answer, a theme for the day, or a quick yes/no nudge. Perfect for beginners and daily practice. Try it with your free card of the day.
Three-card spread (Past · Present · Future)
Three cards give a story arc. The classic layout reads left to right as Past → Present → Future, but you can reframe the positions as Situation → Action → Outcome or Mind → Body → Spirit. It is the best all-purpose spread for real questions. Learn more in our three-card spread guide.
Celtic Cross (10 cards)
The Celtic Cross is the deep dive — 10 cards covering the heart of the matter, what crosses you, the past, near future, hopes and fears, outside influences and the likely outcome. Use it for a big, complex situation when you want the full picture.
