The five-element principle

Each person has a destiny element (nạp âm) by birth year. Choose name characters whose element supports the child's (e.g. Water supports Wood) and avoid clashing elements, often expressed through meaning (sea, mountain, forest, metal…).

Harmony with parents

Avoid clashing with ancestors' names; keep the sound pleasant with the surname; balance elements across the family.
