Star worship 2026: which of the Nine Stars is watching over you?

In Vietnamese folk belief, each year one of the Nine Stars (Cửu Diệu) watches over a person, rotating by lunar age and gender.

The nine stars

They are La Hầu, Thổ Tú, Thủy Diệu, Thái Bạch, Thái Dương, Vân Hớn, Kế Đô, Thái Âm, Mộc Đức. Three are auspicious (Thái Dương, Thái Âm, Mộc Đức); the rest are cautionary.

Common cautionary stars

Thái Bạch drains money; La Hầu brings disputes; Kế Đô brings hidden sorrow; Vân Hớn and Thổ Tú bring gossip and obstacles.
